    News from Si-Plan

Si-Plan has recently designed two application-specific test machines for use in the building materials industry.

The first machine is designed to meet the requirements of BS EN 1052-2 (Methods of test for masonry. Determination of flexural strength). The machine can be configured to test both parallel and perpendicular to the mortar beds.

The test walls can be pre-built and aged on steel pallets before being loaded on the test machine, giving a convenient way of testing multiple specimens.

Servo-control and data acquisition on a PC-based system with real-time graphs and data capture files which can be exported to popular spreadsheets programmes makes this a very user-friendly system.

The second machine is designed to meet the requirements of BSEN 1052-3 (Methods of test for masonry. Determination of Initial Shear Strength). The machine applies the required compressive load while applying the shear load to the specimen under test. Previously-prepared specimens are easily loaded to the machine.

The system is servo-controlled and data acquisition on a PC-based system with real-time graphs and data capture files which can be exported to popular spreadsheets programmes makes this a very user-friendly system.

Currently under design is a railway sleeper test machine to test railway sleepers to BS EN 13230-2 (Railway applications. Track. Concrete sleepers and bearers. Prestressed monoblock sleepers).

Additional test machines of interest to the construction industry in the Si-Plan range include

Block Compression Machine for compression testing of concrete (BS 1881)
1000kN tensile reinforcing bar test machine
